Irish musician Elaine Malone has had quite the past 12 months. pôt-pot, the band she plays harmonium in, dropped an excellent ep last spring; in the fall she released a collaboration with the legendary guitarist Roy Montgomery. This week, a full length from her solo project, Mantua, hit the shelves via the Fort Evil Fruit label.
The first time I saw Malone was last May, in yet another project, an improvisation trio with harpist Méabh McKenna and percussionist Eleanor Myler. The three have continued to perform together under the moniker Géis. Malone’s new record, Galtee Virtual Muse, is a masterclass in droney goodness, with occasional washes of melody and vocals that are simultaneously ethereal and organic.
Tune in to hear I Look for You from the new album in the second hour of the show, and catch Mantua in Cork City on the 29th of March.
